Creating Your First Archive on the Mobile App

Creating Your First Archive on the Mobile App

This article will walk you through creating your first archive on the Permanent.org mobile app.

Welcome to Permanent.org, and congratulations on creating an account and taking your first steps towards building a legacy for yourself, your community, your family, or your organization!

Your Permanent.org account allows you to create or join an unlimited number of archives. Archives can represent any person, a whole family or group, or an organization. A Permanent.org archive is where you can upload photos, documents, videos, and other files that represent the digital legacy of the person, group or family, or organization the archive is about.

Once you've created your Permanent.org archive, you will be able to create your first Permanent archive. The steps below will guide you through this important step.

Creating Your First Archive

After you've created your Permanent.org account, you will be taken to a welcome screen where you will begin to create your first archive. When you're ready, tap "Get Started."

The first step in creating your first archive is to decide what type of archive you want to build. The archive type indicates what the archive represents. You can create a person archive, a group or family archive, or an organization archive. Tap one of the options to select it, then tap the Next button.

Not sure where you want to start? Try creating a Person archive for yourself. You can always create additional archives later once you've decided on a project.

Next, you'll name your archive. The archive's name is generally the name of the person, group, family, or organization your archive is about. Tap the archive name field to open the keyboard, then type in the name of your archive. You don't need to add "Archive" at the end, as the archive name will already populate with "Archive" at the end of what you've typed. When you're done, tap Create Archive.

Congratulations on your first archive! You will be taken to your new archive, in the Private Files workspace (learn more about your archive's workspaces here). You'll be greeted with a welcome message that provides you with a recap of the archive you've created. Tap Get Started to start exploring and building your new archive.

If you'd like to learn more about the new archive you've created, check out our Tour of the Permanent Mobile App to learn more about the different workspaces and features of your archive.
