How to Choose an Archive Steward



Your archive steward is the Permanent.org member who will take ownership of your archive when your legacy plan is activated.

There are three things you may want to consider when choosing an archive steward. 

  1. How well do they know you? Your archive steward should understand your wishes for your digital legacy.

  2. Will this person carry out your wishes as you’ve detailed? Your archive steward should be someone you trust to follow the instructions you leave them.
  3. What is their comfort level with technology? Your archive steward will need to be able to navigate Permanent.org successfully and will need to be a member of Permanent.org.
Your archive steward does not need to be a close relative–it can be anyone who you feel would best handle your digital materials in the way you wish.
