How to Start a Conversation with Your Archive Steward

It can be a challenge to start a conversation about planning for your legacy when you have passed. Here are three tips for talking to someone about becoming an archive steward.

Ask someone you trust: Start by asking the person if they are able and willing to take on this role. Make sure they understand what an archive steward is and if they are comfortable taking on the role.
Share your wishes: Talk through what you’d like to happen to your archive. You could tell them to publish certain items, continue building your archive, or whatever you want to happen with your legacy.
Tell them why you chose them: Make sure they understand what really matters to you and why you’re choosing them.
